All in all it was a pretty successful trip given the conditions that were out of our control. Because of the poor reports coming from Grenada we decided to super truck it 5 hours round trip the first 3 days to Washington. Great place. Everything you would ever need could be found at Roys Store. Rigged the flats out from Gator when the wind allowed and back in the Gator when it blew. Also dipped the trees the last day. Water was in the mid 60s. Brought home 60 fish and caught a whole bunch more. Also ran into some bonus fish including 3 pound bass, white bass, drums, slimers, gar, and a snakehead.
Based upon MOnday forecast we decided to pack up a day early but hit Sardis on the way north. Had a great day rigging out of Wyatt Crossing. Caught and released a 2 pound 14 ounce crappie and kept 20 for the fryer. Caught another 30 unders. 11.75 inch fish are abundant as are the big white bass. In total for the weekend, our boat caught around 200 fish and brought home 80. Many of them over 2 pounds.
As usual the hospitality was awesome everywhere we went. Would like to give a shout out to John Harrison, Rees Guide, BRM, and Birdman for thier honest advice and emotional support. We were pretty down when we heard the reports but these guys reminded us once again there are always options if your are willing to drive even in crazy years like this one. Great guides and even better men.
Had one idiot buddy who tandem hauled his camper and boat. We told him prior to leaving that there are many potential problems with doing that. He did not listen. He was sideswiped on the way down in Memphis. He jackknifed it in a filling station in Arkansas on the way home. And eventually nearly ripped the frame apart from all the bouncing on 55. Had to drop the trailer haul the boat home and then come right back to get the trailer. Just make sure you really go thru your truck and trailer maintenance, know the laws and make sure if you tandem trailer that you do it correctly with the right equipment. Not only can it ruin it your trip you can really hurt someone if you don't know what the hell your doing. Like Forrest said "Stupid is as stupid does"
