Reelfoot First Timer Bucket List!

Ok so for Fathers Day last year my wonderful wifey bought me a 3 day package at Blue Bank resort for next week 3/22-3/24. I’m taking a couple buddies for a guys bucket list trip. We are driving up from Grenada MS area. Not looking for anyone’s special spots but some general guidance. Is it too early to fish shallow trees and stumps? Do I need to bring trolling gear? What about the catfish too...I like to drop some noodles sometimes. Is that legal there? Heard Reelfoot is full of them? We are just looking for a good time and some R&R from hard work. Any help is appreciated!! I did notice that my Garmin LakeVu maps doesn’t give much detail on RF. Be on the lookout for a 16’ Tracker Grizzly with MS C.C stickers! Attachment 293951

Bring your cold weather gear!

Have fun! I don't know what it is about reelfoot, the history or how much different it is than the deep water reservoirs that I normally fish, but something about that lake is mesmerizing. I can remember seeing the ads for fishing packages in the backs of outdoor magazines when I was a kid and always dreamed of going there. My first trip to the foot did not disappoint! Didn't catch very much, but absolutely fell in love with the lake. Soak in all that can and enjoy time with good friends!

Take you rigging gear!

Unless it really warms up if I were you I would plan on some scattered spider rigging. Watch the wind it can be brutal. Be ready to try a watershed lake or the washout if the wind is really up.

Make sure your insurance is paid up, spare prop lol.

Go slow. If you see someone going fast, don’t assume you can fall in behind them and you’ll be ok. The stumps are bad.

Just bear in mind, it's not "if" you hit a stump but "when" you hit one. The Asian carp are bad there and it doesn't take much for them to start jumping. It's absolutely beautiful though and you'll see eagles for sure. Be careful if the wind gets up cause the lake will get to rolling pretty quick.

Hopefully some warmer nights will get the crappie going, I recommend spider rigging and pay attention to the wind direction and go where the boats are. Water temperature was 48 today. Most of the fishing has been going on on the south end but if it’s gets warmer you might want to go up north to Buck Basin or Upper Blue. A lot shallower so will warm up faster and in my opinion more scenic than the big water.

We are all set to go! Get there Thursday and have the Blue Bank Guide booked for Friday, then we are self guiding Saturday. Can’t wait!!
