I don't think Wood Creek is known for its Crappie fishing. But, according to this, they're in there :Quote:

That's about all I can tell you. I've only fished it twice ... both times were for Bass, and over 10yrs ago (last time I was there). .... cp
Fished there many times in the summer, for channel cats. Good lake for catfish. I hear there are good numbers of crappie early, but but it gets fished out on keepers pretty quick.
Since Wood Creek Lake is relatively close, my brother and I have fished it many times. The crappie are there, but unfortunately there are few "slabs". Also, the keeper fish seem to lack the "thickness" that we have enjoyed from similar sized fish from Cumberland.
KDFWR imposed a 9" limit on crappie approx. 4-5 years ago to try to improve the quality of crappie present in Wood Creek, however I fear that regulation still goes unheeded by many who fish there.
My brother and I started fishing for crappie on Wood Creek with our dad just before he was diagnosed with lung cancer back in 1991. I have lots of great memories from those days. Dad passed on in '93, but we kept on fishing Wood Creek until just a few years ago, when we got spoiled with the bigger and better fish from Cumberland.
Sorry to ramble, but the crappie are in there. You just have to know where to look. I guess there will be more fishermen (and women) giving Wood Creek a look with what will be going on on Cumberland for the next 7-10 years. I know I'm trying to figure some alternatives.
Best fishes!

U1121 is correct. Plenty of undersized crappie, just not many eaters and those are scappie. I would suggest Laurel Lake as an alternative to Woods Creek. Laurel Lake has similar size issues, but....there are "spots" where there are some really good sizes to the eaters! See my recent post about Cumberland......I'm looking at Laurel as an alternate hole.
