Got for a few hours yesterday with a good friend. We pushed jigs and jigs tipped with minnows in 4'-14'. Best bite for big fish was in 8'-9' fishing 5' down. We found the better fish wanted it moving pretty fast. We keyed in on .4-.5 mph. We ended up with a great mess of eaters and a 7 fish stringer of 10.67 lbs. I had a pair of twins that went 1.82 for our biggest fish of the day. Better get out if you can to take advantage of catching the fish while they are at their heaviest weight for the entire year. No better time of year for quantity and quality than late February through mid March.
While we were getting ready to take pictures and then release the big girls at the ramp the new game warden came pulling in to the ramp. He beached his boat and talked for a few minutes. After he backed his boat trailer in we finished up releasing our big fish and noticed he was having trouble. The linkage for his shifter broke and he was stranded. I flagged down a boat at the north ramp and they pulled him over to his trailer. My buddy Kevin walked out the frame of the trailer far enough to catch the rope and we finally got him winched up on the trailer. He was pretty thankful for the help as him paddling a big Ranger Reata in 12-15 mph wind was not working very well. So after a great day of fishing we also got to do a good deed.
