Bruce I guess I'm just a throw back to those good ol' days. Every year I grew a sizable garden. I plant and can a whole lot of snap beans. My next favorite is okra. I grow, cut, slice, and smother down bushels and bushels of okra. Once smothered down I stuff it into quart ziplocks and pat flat. Then into the freezer they go. There is never a shortage of those two at my house. I also plant and can tomatoes, grow a few fresh cukes and peppers. My fig trees give me fruit for fresh eating and jams. The mulberry tree give me fresh fruit and jellies. I will have my first harvest of persimmons this fall and look forward to that. I have blueberry plants, blackberry bushes and a few strawberries plus a grape vine. I hope to revive my strawberry bed later this year for a fall planting. It's wonderful to stroll in the yard and snack along the way.
There is nothing to compare to fresh fruit and vegetables. I also have many friends who do the same but grow different things. We have gatherings a few of times a year to share our good food and the good fortune of our friendship.

Growing a garden is my second favorite past time.....second to fishing.
My father has always grown a garden and got me involved and loving it at a very young age, we have some property in Erwinville just before New Roads which has about 3/4 of an acre garden.
Everything from potatoes, beans, oakra, sweet corn, peppers, tomatoes, eggplant all the way down to herbs and flowers. Having that garden isn't enough because I threw up two rows in my yard just so I can have a few select veggies readily available for dinner any given night.

These will be ready to go in the ground by the end of next week when I get back in town.
Very nice setup sugarfoot and very neat. I’m slowly turning some of my garden into raised beds. Thanks for the picture.

I work at the greenhouses on LSU campus so germinating seeds is much easier than trying at my house in the back yard.
I generally have a half dozen of each left over Paw Paw Gene, you are more than welcome to them if you don’t have plants yet....I can send you variety names if you are interested.
Thank so much but I’m all full up right now. Today I moved 7 tomato plants I had growing in pots in the green house to a bed in the yard. The green house has gotten too hot too early. I hope I don’t set them back much each plant has a bunch of tomatoes on it.

Yes it has been usually warm for this early in the year, I believe it is the first time I have eggplant and beans in the ground before March 1.
We moved everything out the greenhouse because it was getting too hot and they were stretching as much as growing.
Very good read Bruce. Thanks for sharing.
