rough water

I heard Kentucky Lake can get pretty rough. My buddy and me both have 17' deep v fishing boats with 50 hp motors.We are going to Kentucky Lake next week. If we get rough weather,would it be too much for that kind of boat , to cross the lake. Advise would be appreciated and heeded. Thanks

Long term forecast doesn't call for high enough winds to cause you problems at least through Thursday. Keep an eye on the wind forecast and if it shows much more than 12 or 13mph out of the north or south, keep your eyes open. Even if it does get windy, you can trailer to the other side if you need to.

If you are real familiar with running in rough water your boat should be fine. Probably be a wet ride but the deep V should handle it. I ran the lakes for years in a 16 ft Mod V with a 35 and later with a 50. just respect the lake and you'll be fine. If the wind is supposed to get 20+ then just trailer to the opposite side as stated above. If you get caught you may have to run up/down the lake a ways instead of straight across.

Wind ain't the only thing...Add:

Wind + Barge traffic + Donald Trump type yachts = BIG WAVES which may catch you off guard. It is best to trailer as close as you can to where you want to fish, especially on windy days. That is what I do w/ my 19' modified vee jon boat and I feel a lot safer.

Take it from an ol'towboater. If they are calling for winds in the 20's blowing up or down the lake (with up being the worst) don't try it! It can get pretty wild. 2 fishermen drowned about 2 weeks ago around Paris Landing underestimating the waves. And above all else WEAR YOUR LIFE JACKET!!! Good fish'n :D
