When long lining in water less than 7 ft. deep, how is the best way to do it? Could a cork be used 2-4 foot above the jigs to control depth? Would that not similar to using planer boards to control depth? Thanks for any info.

I use a cork with both jigs and cranks to control depth, good rule of thumb is the two 1/4 oz jigs will run half of what line you have out at 1mph.
at that depth I use 6lb test 1/24 oz jig 50 to 55 feet out from the boat and depending on what depth the fish are being marked , is how I determine the speed of how I am going to pull !!! speeds .08 to 1.0 and up to 1.1 !!! the fish will tell you where they want it !!!
I started pulling pony heads and curly tail grubs under planer boards with clients last spring. Ends up the clients love the boards because it's like watching a bobber and we caught some great fish in water 2' deep. The boards get the bait away from the boat and let us control the depth of the lure. It is a great way to be able to fish on days the wind and waves might keep one from fishing other areas. We were fishing most of the areas we ran boards in by ourselves.
Go to a 1/32 bladed Jig in shallow water. Don’t over think it. Just chunk em out and let er rip. You’ll catch fish, and learn too.
You might not know your exact depth, but you change that by speed. .8= deeper 1mph=shallower. You’ll catch on quickly. It ain’t near as hard as it seems. You just have to go out and do it some. Line out ain’t that big a deal. Like I said, just chunk em out and go around 1mph give or take a few tenths. Long Lining is fairly easy to learn really. Like I did, most people over think it and don’t try it long enough. Once I was shown how simple it was I’m now an Expert. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

Thanks G that will be a big help to us beginners.
Thanks for all the replies! They are appreciated!
Just make a good cast from the boat and troll around 1 mph with 1/32 jigs and road runners.
