Friday 2-16-18 Lake Monroe
Yesterday my wife resided to join me on a trip out on the lake. It's been awhile since she has been on the lake with me ( she doesn't like to go as early as I do). But we headed down to the lake for an afternoon shot at the crappies.
We got to the ramp around 2pm, and started to get ready to launch. Another boat was just coming off the water so we asked how they did. They told us that they only got two fish all morning, and that the wind had picked up making it even harder. Just what we wanted to hear ( NOT ).
Because of the wind we stayed close to shore to help buffer the wind. I started out in 6 ft of water and let the wind move us along at a nice 1.1 mph. I used the trolling motor to nudge us more along the shore line. It wasn't that long when one of the rods go off and Paula boats the first fish. Not a BIG one but big enough to keep. We kept on course and added another fish to the box. Not bad .. We finish the pass and we had three fish in the box. In less than a half hour.
We pull the rods and head back to make another pass but this time I ran further west to give me a longer pass. I was quiet until we got to the starting point of our first pass and the rods started to go off again.
Normally the only way I get to beat my wife in fishing is to leaver her at home, but not this time. Yes she was catching fish and I think she caught as many as I did, but the luck of it was that I was getting the larger one and she was getting practice in releasing them. I even managed to boat a 13 1/2 incher.
The wind did slow some but it kept us at a good drift the whole time. We turned the bow towards the ramp around 4:30. It was a short trip but it was great to have my wife out on the boat with me again.
10 nice keepers got to make the ride home with us.
