As far as I can tell good old fashion jigs work better. I tried them seriously during the spawn last year and the crappie would drag the bobber under and then let the gulp go without being hooked. I could have caught three dozen crappie in the time I wasted testing the gulp minnows. I say wasted but that isn't the way I feel because they are certainly an interesting concept. When I fished with minnows as a kid live minnows would dramatically out fish dead ones. My observation would be that the gulp is close enough to "real" that you get the same reaction as a dead minnow.
Don't buy a lot but bream LOVE them. The scent leaks from the gulps well and I have found them good for bream on the bottom. Nesting worked well.
I used them before one time and killed a bunch a bream with them .....I seen an old boy make everyone else in a crowd jealous one time with some on some slab crappie when no one could get a bite as well ......he had the larger version and the one I used the one time was the smaller version ....that said I don't carry them with me or own any myself ...pretty pricey stuff
Have a bunch, just can't seem to pull the trigger and put them on. Also have had these for probably at least 5 years, lol!

Skip, I love the small ones for buegills, and in warm water. Not much luck with crappie. Also good on walleye in the larger sizes.
Glad to hear some people have had luck with them. I tried them and not that hard. It is just easier to use what you know works in most cases and it seems almost every bait and technique has it's place if you are willing to spend the time experimenting.
