In the owners manual Tohatsu Outboard Motor - Owners Manuals page 6 it talks about a new feature called high speed electronic safety governor also has a low speed electronic safety governor , exactly what is this ?
I just bought one and tested it saturday after following all break in procedures opened it up and its awesome ,, only deal hard turn with quick shoot down the motor went into limp mode and warning light comes on. After killing engine and restarting it game on . Is this normal ?
I have one of those Jap 25 hp motors made in 2003 Nobody in north Louisiana wants to work on it. I have an problem the charging dont work. Watched U-Tube for days on all types of motors---- under the flywheel on the Capacitor Discharge system is a sensor that also sends the alarm signal to the light. It affects the power Pacs that fire the coils to the plugs Is what I remember them saying --- I think it is standard on four strokes several years now--- Go ask the dealer --- Hope that helps
I just bought the same engine. My boat is a light skiff and the 9 pitch prop that comes on it is too low for the weight of my boat. I run out of RPMs at 3/4 throttle and the automatic governor kicks in around 6000 rpms. It keeps you from over reving and damaging your engine. I have a SS 11 pitch prop coming. Check your prop pitch and look at the table in back of owners manual to see if you need a higher pitch as well.
If I understand things correctly Tohatsu makes all of the small Mercury outboards as well so any shop that services the small Mercury outboards should also be able to service the Tohatsu small outboards as the are the same motor.Quote:

A good reputable repair facility should know this and sounds more like they do not want to work on a motor that was not purchased from them regardless of brand.
You are correct and they also make the smaller Evinrudes up to around 15hp or so. (Mercury up to 50-60 HP)Quote:

I did forget to open the vent cap on the gas tank on my first run. Got about 1/4 mile and engine shut down. It had created a vacuum in the tank and it sucked all the gas out of the fuel line. even the bulb was flat as a pancake. Once I loosened the Vent Cap I was good to go.
