Do You Use Hackle "Wings?"
Guys, I hope I can ask this intelligently. Let's say you are tying some jigs with the tip of 2 hackle feathers for the tail. When you are doing this, do you cut some short "Vs" of the hackle feather, once the tip is removed to make some short pieces of hackle that look like little wings to tie in with the hackle tips to make them look fuller? I saw a YouTube video of a guy doing this and it looked pretty good, but now I can't find the video. He held the 2 hackle tips by the butt end where it would be tied down and put 2 hackle wings UNDER the butt end of the tips and a 3rd "wing" on top and then holding that bundle together, he tied in the whole thing by the butt ends so that the 2 tips extended out behind the bend of the hook to make the tail for his jig. Using the "wings" made the tail looker fuller at the base. And then I found another video by a guy named Joey Anderson showing how he cut the short pieces of hackle that he called "Vs" to use in tying, but I haven't watched enough of his videos to see if he shows how he ties them in. Anyway, I wanted to know if you guys just use 2 hackle tips or do you add the Vs when you are tying jigs with hackle tails? I hope that makes sense. If I need to try to make my question clearer, ask away.
Thanks
GF
