Stihl Chainsaw help
Okay, I felled a black oak tree in my field last week. The tree was dying so I'm making firewood out of it. I started sawing up the log and everything was going fine until I got about halfway done. My Stihl 290 MS died like it ran out of gas. I filled it up and choked it. It started but when I switched the choke off, it died. Tried 4 or 5 more times and can't keep it running. Checked the air filter and it was pretty dirty so I put a new one in. It's still doing the same thing. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Carb is probably clogged or a fuel line is collapsed.

does it have a screen as well as a filter ? look for a set screw on the muffler .

Spark Arrester is clogged. Take muffler off and remove screen.

My Husqvarna had same symtoms. Turned out to be a pinhole in fuel line causing it to suck air. Started fine but as soon as choke was off it had too lean a mixture and died.

Take a look at your fuel line...especialy the part thats inside the tank.....they are fairly easy to replace.

Call your son and tell him to come finish it for you or you will cut him out of the will. Then throw the chainsaw away so you don't get yourself in this kind of pickle any more.
You're welcome.
