I would like to know if there are any lakes in Missouri that even get safe ice.
Doubt it. Water levels fluctuate so may have air under ice even if thick enough..
A few, here and there, rare and not for long. I avoid the big lakes (Smithville and up) unless it is really cold for a really long time. Smaller lakes can be good, if you watch for it.Quote:

I wasn't thinking of ice fishing, but open water to fish some of the creek mouths. Thanks for the reply however. I am 77 and have gone my whole life without even giving a thought to fishing through the ice, knowing it is fun for some, just not me. Would however like to know if the lake is open enough to fish.
