What am I doing wrong with the pics turned sidways?

Easiest way to post pics and not end up sideways is... select the picture, hit edit, then select auto, hit save, then send. Works every time. Auto will Auto Enhance the picture, color, brightness and contrast. This is using and Android phone. May be different with iphone
