Haven't tried them and haven't heard any reports. I will say the water on Pickwick and below Pickwick dam is the clearest I have ever seen in over 20 yrs of fishing there. Rain forecast for next week hopefully will put some color in the water.
Thanks for the reply, 2#. I know it might a little early for those toothy critters, but thought I'd get a jump on info from anybody fishing for them before I make the trip.
Thanks, again!
Calvin, if you saw my sauger post on the main forum, you saw we fished the Ohio Friday with great results. While fishing Newburgh, we talked to a Crappie.com member who lives right next to Mike Miller Park where the ShinDig was held. He had fished Smithland Dam on the Ohio the day before and said of the 10 boats who were sauger fishing Thursday, he saw 2 sauger caught. Same river just a few miles apart with totally different results. We had not had rain or any reason for the river to stain up in one area.
I know the large bottom-bouncer jigs are a traditional bait for sauger but we were using double minnow rigs, the exact rig one would use for spider-rigging or two poling, but with a 3 oz weight and we hooked the minnow up thru the head. The weight let the line hang almost vertically most of the time and stay in contact with the bottom. I was just barely raising the weight up and letting it tick along the bottom. Any time we hit a change in bottom feel like clay to rocks, a dip, or a rockpile, we caught fish.
I too am looking forward to when the sauger get busy on the TN.
Double minnow rigs, floating jig heads & blade baits will normally put them in the boat.
Thanks, Doug. I did see your post on the Ohio River trip. That's what got me fired up about it. I'll be watching for posts from the TN river in your area. By the way, Rickie looked like he was COLD in one of the pics!:biggrin
Nothing happening here yet Calvin. I been twice and talked to several people. Also been spending money at a local bait and tackle store to get info. No sauger yet. I will pm you any good info I get.
Thanks, Danny. When I get up that way to visit my sister, I'm gonna come see you and Mae and your new place.
