Typically they are on the sides of the river channel above the 378 bridge this time of year. Often we put in at Hickory Knob and motor up the SC side of the Savannah River. Many times birds will give them away when the perch run the smaller bait to the surface. Look for thin arches right on the bottom in 20-25 FOW. Berry spoons work well, as do minners. Once you find them, white belly strips work real well and will save your minners. Catch them all!!
There is some grown ones in the hill. Several years ago we were catching them on herring above the 378 bridge. You will just have to ride and look for them until you find them
Be careful above the 378 bridge, especially up the lake from Murray Creek. There are topped off trees just under the water everywhere up that way.
With the water temps dropping, I usually start really caching them right along with the hybrids jigging in all the creeks down stream of 378 as well.
Had a couple of good perch trips in the last week on the upper end. Finding lots of bait and fish that are slow to hit, but just keep driving around and watching for birds. Even a few dipping gulls will give away the active feeding fish. Once under the birds it can be fast and furious. It just might take cranking and moving a lot.
