I'm working on an aluminum tracker and I'm planning on painting it. I've took the stripes- letters-& graphics off and boy was that a pain . Some came off clean others was tough to get off. I have a lot of sticky residue. I've tried goof off and one other aerosol spray stuff and it don't budge it. Any recommendations on what works on removing that residue? Thanks
Carb cleaner , brake cleaner will both remove the left over glue, but it still involves a bit of elbow grease, spray a little on the glue, then on a rag and get to work
We use an "eraser wheel" to remove lettering and adhesive on trucks and trailers. Often it's on trailers made from bare aluminum, just like your Tracker is. On the wheel, you use the side of the wheel, not the flat end. It will get that off quicker and easier than anything else that I know of and will not damage the aluminum at all. It may polish it to a high shine, but it won't damage it. You can buy them at about any auto parts store that sells automotive paint. Just chuck it up in a drill and go at it. No need to buy and adapter, just chuck the drill up on the bolt in the center.

I am gonna have to buy and try the eraser wheel.....Looks good.....Have always had pretty good luck removing adhesive with some,not all ,of the "citrus orange"cleaners...Some r good,some r lousy...Good Luck
We buy and sell semi trailers and trucks. Time is money, so.. the eraser is the fastest and best thing I've found... It also won't damage aluminum or automotive paint. There is a best method to it, but I don't think I can explain it. If you have an air operated die grinder, get the extension/adapter. You can burn them off in a hurry with that.
Old, sun faded decals are almost impossible to remove from bare aluminum. The eraser wheel is by far the best method I've found. If the adhesive is so dry that the eraser won't remove it (which is very rare) we soak the area with PB Blaster, allow it to soak overnight, then eraser it off the next day. PB Blaster is better the best thing I've found to soften the glue. Not WD40, or other spray oils.
Here's my best effort at explaining the method. If you're holding the drill in your right hand, with the eraser facing left, the drill should be in the forward gear and the highest speed. Start at the top, working across in a line, that will push that row down and leave a clean strip. Drop down and make another stripe right at the bottom of that one. Work your way down. If you're left handed use the same process but run the drill in reverse. Clean at the top, dirty below. It will leave some debris on the aluminum that will usually wipe right off.
FurFlyins got you lined out. Get a wheel. We also use 3m adhesive remover liquid, but don’t use it if you have much area to deal with.
