Attachment 281780I have been experimenting with new line in 2lb. test. I like Ande mono but I am trying Izor next. I have even used 8lb. Power Pro braid early in the season when bass up to 7lb. kept hitting my 1/16oz. Roadrunner. Here are some of the fish I have been catching lately on the Ande 2lb. test.Attachment 281779

No I have not but I will definitely look into it. By the way that top picture is the 8lb. straight Power Pro braid I mentioned. I still don't know how to install pics on here but I will figure it out. I put 2lb. Izor on my rig and it seems allot thinner than the Ande of the same test. I will put it to the test tomorrow and see how I like it. Pics to follow.

I am going to weigh in here on the 2# test line. Myself, disco...and maybe LedHead have used more brands of 2# test line than most. I fish 2# test almost for 98 percent of my fishing. I love chasing bluegill, crappie...but I also chase Smallies...KY bass. Most years boating over 1000 Smallies with many of them going over 21 inches. All of them on 2# test line. My go to line is SOS Trout Magnet 2# test. Having said that the shelf in my garage has...or has had many different brands of 2# test line on it over the years. I have lost count of the different brands I have tried and still use from time to time....most of them coming out of Japan and Europe. I will give you the reasons I use SOS 2# test line the majority of the time. Castability.......line strength for the bigger fish....superb knot strength....stretch...and softness. Now do I think it is the best 2# test on the market...that depends. It's break strength is at 3# and not 2#. There have been several catches submitted to IGFA for fish line class Trout Magnet 2# test line. Sometimes it tested out at 2# but most often at 3#. This is due to the diameter. All of the lines out of Japan and Europe will test out at 2# test and they all will have a much smaller diameter. This smaller diameter allows for much greater casting distance than the SOS line. But I have found that the problem comes when hooking a big fish..say a 6 pound Smallie...you are praying the knot holds....and I retie often...but when using the smaller diameter lines I retie very often. When I fish Dale Hollow Lake for the big Gills in the spring I don't use my Japanese lines. I will catch a bunch of Gills but I will also catch a bunch of big Smallies also. I can truthfully say I have lost very few fish to line breakage on SOS line. Having said that I have lost some big fish on the Japanese lines...but not a ton. It only makes sense that the smaller the diameter the more chance of a knot failure. I have some lines that are rated at 1.5# test. I do not use them in known situations where the Smallies are abundant. I will use the 1.5# test at several crappie spots....makes for a fun day. Full disclosure I am on Trout Magnet Pro Staff...and friends with the owner of the company....Jeff Smith. I am not trying to sell you anything. Jeffs philosophy is he wants people to use what is best for them. That is my feelings also. I will continue to order...and use lines out of Japan. When a line question comes up one will get a ton of responses.......line selection to most is like picking a wife....LOL.....very personal. Most have a preference for a certain line...and that is fine...but how many lines have they tried. I have tried just about all 2# test lines one can readily buy here in the USA and almost as many out of Europe and Japan. Why do I do that.....I am looking for something that may give me an edge. I sometimes use line that is made out of polyester, in Japan it is known as "Ester Mono"......no stretch...zero...none. The sensitivity is off the charts...but it is not for big fish....but I do love the stuff. Another reason my main line is SOS is cost. Buying it in bulk is pretty cheap. I respool quite often so this is an advantage for me. Lest one thinks I get my line free I do not. There are many great lines on the market if you have a question about an individual brand ask up....I am sure myself and the other 2 folks I mentioned have tried it.

Man o man that was allot to take in but I am all ears. Out in open water I have had a couple of nice large fish in the boat but up against the rocks and back in the bush it gets crazy sometimes with 2lb. anything. At Lake Powell Utah I have caught allot of brown fish on 2lb. line because we were out in the middle of a large flat with no obstructions. I have never herd of SOS line but I sure will get on the web and order some soon just to try it out. Thanks for the information.
Agree. I think diameter is very important but rarely gets discussed. Diameter is a much better way of comparing lines than the "pound test" printed on the box. FWIW, I'm currently using Trilene XL 2#. It's diameter is .13mm or .005". My only complaint is that it only comes in clear. I would like a "hi vis" version. Speaking of which, I'm currently on the lookout for a fluorescent orange/red 2-3# line. I would much prefer it to the standard hi-vis yellow lines.Quote:
