New Life For A Jig Pole........

Watched J B Salter(RIP) do this several times so thought I would try it myself....this one broke while hauling in a fish....

First, using my Dremel tool, I cut off all the splintered ends....

Then I cut about a 2" long section off of a scrap piece of an old Salter pole....then I inserted it inside the broken pole using super glue to bond it.....

Then I wrapped it tight with braided fishing line....again using super glue as a bond....

And the finished job....field tested it already and it catches fish nicely spider rigging....

I do mine like that but I use epoxy and i do not wrap.

Great job Bruce. That is how Favaro's did a couple for me. Then he coats the thread with epoxy.

Looks good Bruce! I figured J.B. must have passed on to the Great Crappie Hole...when did he pass?

I still have one of his poles holding a place of honor on my wall. I remember the day I bought it...took all afternoon! Mr. Salter had to show me every detail about his pole and why he makes it that way. Then came the lesson on just how to use it and my showing him I had learned J.B.'s way of fishing. After that was the demonstration on how to throw around corners...Yup, he could wrap the jig around a chair leg right into a trash can laid on its side...and my practice till I could do it too!

Afterwards we moved on to the "J.B. Salter crappie jig...how to make it and what materials to use...also how to make and use a bobber...his way.

It made for a delightful day of an old man with a passion for crappie fishing passing his years of knowledge down to a "youngster". I thoroughly enjoyed it, and wish every young person could experience J.B.s teaching first hand.

I have various diameter carbon rods from my rc plane days. I put a length to use not too long ago for the same reason. I broke a 14' med-hvy trolling rod. Used a five inch section to join with 30min epoxy, then a wrap with some carbon tow applied with finishing resin. It'll break above or below the repair before the repaired joint breaks.

I could never come close to your ability to fix things.....LOL...

Mr J B called it his magic show. Salters magic show. He was something. I have 3 of his poles. They are everthing he said they were . Lite weight and i have landed a pile of nice fish on them. He left his mark. R.I.P.
