Seen a guy using bullfrog for bait. Anyone else tried them?
I never had any luck using frogs for bait in open water, but the work well in heavy weed cover, cat tails or Lilly pads for bass, never caught crappie on them.A bullfrog is a terrible thing to waste on a fish,I find them more worthy rolled in breading and deep fried!
I've never seen frogs sold as bait, so you'd probably have to catch your own.
There are so many simple, cheap baits for catfish, though, I don't know why anyone would go to the trouble of catching frogs.
When we go frog hunting we always save the scrap from cleaning them and use them as bait on trot lines in the river. We have caught some good fish on them to.
Bait is getting hard to find around my parts. Used to be able to throw a net 2x and have more than enough shad for 2 trips. Now may throw for an hour and catch a couple if that. Heck over the last 2 years I have been several times an just unable to catch bait and it ruined my fishing trip. May resort to trying out bullfrogs. I got plenty of them. lol.
In Kansas we slaughtered the catfish on frogs.
Yaw using em for cut bait? Or just putting the entire live frog on the hook?
Never tried bullfrogs but catfish LOVE toad frogs. Or...good old fashioned night crawlers tipped with a pink marshmallow is killer!!
