Diy trailer guides opinions please

Im thinking of water proofing this 2x4 and bolting it to the back of my trailer, then using u bolts with pvc for my guides. The pvc will have a 24inch metal rod in it. For sime reason i think if i use the whole board instead of cutting it, i will have more support. Its not a heavy boat 14ft aluminum. Your thoughts, suggestions would be appreciated.Attachment 280775Attachment 280776

Why no just get a treated one instead. That will work but you could just have the rod welded to the trailer and bent to the right angle and it will be permanentl

This will work and it is an easy way to do it without a welder.

I did some on a smaller trailer that were way overkill and would do well for your needs. First you start hunting construction sites where they are working with fire sprinklers. Scare up a couple of pieces of 1" or so about 2 to 2 1/2 feet long. Next is a piece of 1/4" flat steel or angle. I used a piece as wide as the piece of channel across the back of the trailer. I had the pipe welded onto the flat at a 15* angle, and then bolted them to the trailer with 4 - 5/16 bolts and slid a piece of PVC over the pipe as a bumper and the PVC was about 8" longer than the pipe. You're done. Cheap, built from scraps, and the weld shouldn't cost more than a ten spot, unless you know someone with a welder and then it's almost free. Not 2X4 and pipe but it will last waaay longer.
