My wife and I bought a older motorhome and would like to plan a 2 or 3 week trip in Jan. and am looking to the Florida cdc members for suggestions on good lakes and possible info on campgrounds, we would prefer the northern section of the state if possible but open for ideas, I've looked at Cresent lake by st john's river and Lake Talquin by Tallahassae but would still prefer suggestions from other fishermen, I plan towing my tracker (freshwater) which is set up for crappie fishing. Lake Griffin state park..... It's not exactly North Florida but nice camping and easy access to lake Griffin
Come to Camp Mack Florida, I did 11 years ago and gave been back each year. It is on an oxbow to Lake Kissimmee and has a beautiful camp ground. Great folks there as camper/fisherman and you can stay as long as needed. The camp folks there will help you in finding and X arching great crappie.
Just about 4 hours south of the Georgia/Florida line. Google Camp Mack and you will find it. Lotd to do, fish fry amount the neighbors and bimonthly get together soon in the clubhouse. Come ready to go fishing. Lots of guys who will put your boat in the lake.
January is usually a great month for some quality fish in FL. This is just my opinion, and depending on how far south you want to go into FL, I would really look at Lake Talquin or The St Johns River system. Lake Talquin has a couple of campgrounds that will accommodate your RV and there is a State park on the lake. The fishing On Lake Talquin is usually very good in January and the fish look like footballs. The St Johns River has many more RV sites to choose from and the fishing is good from Jacksonville to just Northeast of Orlando. That covers some very good lakes like Crescent, Little and Big Lake George, Dexter, Woodruff, Rodman, Monroe, Jessup and Harney...(And a few others I'm sure I forgot to mention). Fishing in the river is pretty good too. These fish have some shoulders too... The last week in January will be pretty busy on the St Johns between Astor and Monroe with pre fishing going on for the Crappie Masters tournament. Which ever way you go, I think it will be a Win/Win situation...Good Luck!!
I'm not familiar with the Talquin lake or area so I can't help there. I will echo TnT though. In my opinion coming to the Crescent area provides more fishing opportunities in Crescent, Dunns Creek (top catfish destination), St Johns, Lake George, etc. etc
Look up Lochloosa Harbor.
Wow thanks for all the info guys, I will look into all of the places this weekend, I had time last night to look into lake Griffin, which both of Us liked but Talquin looks good too. One thing I am going to have to ask about is what type or ramps are there? backing a 17.5ft both with a 29ft motorhome can be tricky, but I tow trailers all the time so if its possible I'm sure I could handle it. I am going to try and make a decision this weekend, I'm sure sites are booking up.
No problem, most places like Talquin have spaces for your boat after you launch so only put in is needed. also all places will have someone to launch it for you.Quote:

Harris chain of lakes. Lots of lakes to choose from and good fishing in most of them. Leesburg area. I go every year. My 2 cents.
