I use the wireless a lot but mostly only to log a map on my #Navionics app but I also did use it a few time to mirror my sonar-gps screen. If you can afford it go to the largest screen you can. I also got a Motor Guide Xi5 that I control with my HDS; you can do the same with the Ti and the last update is very important because you can map you're lake directly on you're screen providing you are running a active Navionics subscription. Quite often you can buy a Ti that comes with a Navionics and you are buyin a bundle like that the Navionics doesn't add a lot of money on you're purchase.
This is the best buy for the money
Thanks for the info, don't plan on doing this so I'm ok there. I've done a lot of reading and see where the 7 Ti supports additional features like controlling trolling motor, reading engine data, etc etc which are things I'm not concerned with - I fish from a 14 ft jon boat with 25hp tiller steer :) Pretty unsophisticated but I have gotten pretty good with my fish finder and want something a little more advanced.
The thing that got me excited about the Ti units is the ability to see the unit display up front on a phone or tablet. I have an old b&w lowrance up front but no gps, and it's a pain to mark a gps point in the back and then try to stay on it up front. Been using a handheld gps to accomplish this but that's a pain too LOL
I ordered the 5 Ti can't wait to get it installed
Excellent choice!
Be aware that under the sun it's not that easy to view the screen and it's not possible to mark wpt on the phone; the phone is only the mirror w/o any control contrary to a tablet that can control the Ti.
Not sure if it works on a 5 inch model but I have an Elite TI 9 and like a previous post stated, you can only monitor with a smartphone. I have an iPad that I use to control it from the bow, but the battery dies within a few hours. Suggest running a charger cord to your tablet, if you use one, to keep it charged all day. The screen is hard to see with certain angles to the sun. It does me no good when I'm fishing off the bow as the transducer is mounted on the transom. But it's handy for trolling faster and searching for structure between fishing spots.
I have elite TI 7 inch and you can use your smartphone to monitor unit while you are on board? didn't know that, course just put it on and don't know much about it.
