Crazy fishing Stories
A funny / crazy Fishing Story...
While on Lake Conway back in the late 80's....
Fishing in the Log jams up by Adams lake. Rented a 14' flat bottom at Terry Widens boat dock at Adams lake on Lake Conway for 5 dollars. Paddle and cushion came with it. This location is a Game and fish landing/ ramp now. Back in the day this was a great place to rent boat and fish.
So I paddled out and turned to the right going north up the right hand bank. Went down about 300 yards and moved into the packed Logjams. They had weeds growing on them and they were all tangled in big groups. They have almost all sunk now.. But you could work your boat up over logs and pull and push your way back up in there. I had gotten in there pretty good. Pulled out my 10 foot rod with the little reel on the end and the line runs up inside out the tip. Cheap little pole it was.. I fished with minnows back then and dropped one in between logs and started catching the mess outta them. I had a fish basket I was loading up. Got maybe 10 and was ready to move. While uniting the basket...I dropped it. I froze as I watch the basket full of fish just sink... The water was about 9 feet deep and I was just sitting there jammed up on the logs. It was a sick to you stomach feeling for sure.. Will sat there and gathered myself and thought...what do I do now? So I got the idea to reel the number two hook to the end of my 10 foot pole. I then stuck it down right where they dropped and scraped around the bottom. All of a sudden i felt something and pull up. You guessed it !! It was the basket full of crappie. Boy Praise the Lord on that one.
This is one of many stories...

Good story! I had heard about the log jam back in the day. It is much different now. It has almost turned into solid ground. There are still logs in that area but not many places you can get over the logs to fish open spots.

Yeah they all sunk. I bet you can still get them going deeper there. Boy did we used to catch the Redears there too.
If AXE MEN knew about those logs...Hundreds of thousands in there...

Someone was caught trying to remove sunk logs from Lake Conway this past year and was written some citations. I guess they had the same idea.

We used to take 1 x12 boards with us in the boat and motor up to the log jams and lay the boards out over the logs and then walk out on them to drop a jig down in between the logs. Man we caught the fool out of them back then. Got wet doing that a couple of times too.

Trot lined those log jams back in the late 70's and early 80's. Constantly fought logs in your lines. We would run 8 to 10 hook lines to make it easier. Caught some big flatheads[emoji3]

My uncles lost a basket full of crappie one time while fishing at White Oak. Never could hook it and get it back. GTT
