My sister lives in smith lake and I plan to visit her in the spring but not without my boat and rod n reels... can anyone give me advise on when the best time to go and or should I try Guntersville instead?

I've never fish Smith but my home lake is a very similar lake( deep an clear). What time of spring are you looking at. If you going early long lineing would be my best guess if later o would fish spawning banks in the back of creeks.

According what time spring you are coming. Never long lined at smith but I have caught them just going down the banks and in the backs of small shallow pockets. Never know until you try!

Probably gonna be mid April before I can get down there. I'm from Ohio btw.. i would probably be staying on smith but I cld alway make the trip to guntersville if it wld be better water.. problem is I know nothing abt either so I'm kind of in the dark here.

I fish Guntersville a lot that time of year and long lining is a killer that time of year. Not much success on Smith. I'd go to the Big G.

There are some great areas on the Big G to fish from the bank and under the bridges.
