Ok folks. I'm on my 3rd (already) cheap bobbin and decided to spend the money to get a better one. I know it boils down to personal like but I don't have the cash reserves necessary to tryout a bunch of them and it galls me to have to loosen the cinch tie on the wallet for a more expensive one(At least more expensive then $7). Which brand and model is your favorite and why?

I like their products just because they seem to be better quality. Have several cheap metal and ceramic. They work but don't last long. Have received 2-3 ceramic from venders and one of the inserts is cracked. Not worth sending back for price paid. I like the ones with solid ceramic tube verses metal tube with pressed in inserts ( most made in Pakistan)

Well that is an interesting question for a couple reasons. One is some that are very good are kind of pricy like the Rite Bobbin which I have several and really like a lot, but at something in the mid $20 range is a lot. However their tube is all ceramic and the guy that owns Rite is super nice guy and if that price is something you can live with would be hard to find a better one. You can adjust the tension on them and is very good when or if you ever tie with finer thread!
Then on regular looking ones I like which are Renzetti Ruby Tip are oh so nice! On the lower end of good would be the Griffin Ceramic Supreme Bobbin and is nice. Dr Slicks are pretty good too, but not as good as the others I have mentioned, but also know I am not talking about any Bobbins I don't have myself.
Auto Bobbins and yes I even have 2 of them and one of them, well I must have lost my mind to buy it as it was like $100 and I don't sue it, lol! However then ones of the better Auto Bobbins is the Nor-Vise Auto Bobbin which has spools you can change for changing colors and yes I have one of them and probably 14 spools or so?
Okay then here are some I have not tried, but bet they are good? One is new to my eyes and have not even thought about it is Thumb Grip Tungsten Tubed Bobbin (which looks like about $50), but is really high cost like more than a Rite! Also there is one I have looked at in my catalog many times for several years, but have not bought is the Marc Petitjean's MP Thread Through Bobbin, but again pretty high cost at around $60!
I am big on the Renzetti ones I mentioned and also really like the Rite Bobbins and which I had more of both. I do also like the Griffin ones I mentioned, but you have to be careful as some do not even have the ceramic insert. I still have a bunch of less ones that are still doing okay, that is just because I have so many, but I also got tired of having to glue back in the ceramic inserts in cheaper models or having some that cut your tread at the worst time!
Maybe I should see about handling Rite Bobbins? Have to think about that though, lol!

After looking through all the different brands the Rite bobbins are the ones I've been looking at the most. I've seen lot of the YouTube videos I watched getting started those guys are using the Rite or a variation of. Now there is the Stonfo bobbin which is the same style as the disc Rite. They are just a hair cheaper then the Rite. I'm not willing to spend $50 on one but the $20 range is not out of the question cause like you said Skip getting tired of gluing the tips back in the cheaper ones.

The Rite Bobbins aree not $50, but more like $25. All I know is I tried one Stonfo regular bobbin and I had issues with it so have not tried any of their other tools. I do have 3 of the Rite Bobbins and one I lost a piece of some how, not sure how. I called them and that guy sent me parts to fix it again free and I ask what he wanted for that, he said nothing except maybe I would send him a jig or fly. Nice guy for sure! I am not saying Stonfo is bad or anything, I just had trouble with one of theirs I tried. I don't even remember which one it was, but the place I bought it took it back. They must be pretty good though or these people wouldn't have them I don't think! I just know what I have and how it does.Quote:

I have moved to the Rite Standard Bobbin. Have 10 now and plan to get at least 5 more to cover all the colors I use.
I have probably 30 or more bobbins that I use (I keep all colors and different size thread ready to go) and the ones I have never had any trouble out of is the ceramic tube bobbins. You will pay maybe $15 for them but they last without having to get above the $20 mark.
