I’m from Ohio but Cave Run is not far from me. Any of you do any good on this lake? Anyone know where would be good to fish for fall crappie there and what technique to use? Any information would be appreciated as this lake will be new to me.

You might try sending a PM to "Littlejohn" .... he's the only one I know that fishes Cave Run with any regularity. He's a good dude, and will give you the straight talk skinny on the lake.Quote:

Keep referring back to that website chart as it gets closer to the time you intend to go, and it will help determine where the temps/oxygen levels are the most favorable at the given depths.
And as for my best guess at "method" ... spider rigging over the KDFWR attractors with jigs tipped with minnows.

Well I have mostly trolled with minnow rigs but after getting on this site I have started trying to learn to use jigs. I will probably go there the second or third week of October. What’s the best way to fish there? I’m still fairly new to crappie fishing.

If you go after the winter drawn down would go up the river and fish the standing timber. I stayed out of the river until they draw it down that way you can see all the stumps and trees better. Down on the main part of lake state has installed a lot of brush piles. You can get a map of them at the corps office or go on line KY Fish & Wildlife and download the cordances. The brush piles get's lot of pressure. You can do the Spider rig fishing or long linging the flats or channel. Night fishing is very good. If you go after drawn down lot of the ramps won't be open. Most all the creeks has standing timber.

You shouldn't have any problems with draw down. Where you staying or putting in at that would narrow down places to fish Littlejohn is right about river him and I fish up there a lot. Fall time is good for pulling cranks always produces crappie and the occasional musky which is fun on light tackle. Clay lick ramp area has some great structure that holds fish so does Buck creek and other main lake areas. Up river is great but be careful you will see boats wide open but don't be fooled they know the area you open up up river and don't you'll be putting in a new lower unit.
