Want try pulling crank baits. Is this just a summer time pattern or will it work other times of the year?
As I understand it :
It works mainly when the fish are suspending out in open water, following baitfish schools, and that's usually during the warmer water periods. Many anglers use the 70deg mark as the beginning & ending of trolling cranks, but some will continue until they're constantly coming back empty handed. It all depends on the particular lake, and at what temperature the fish start to move into their Fall/Winter movements.
It can work in shallow lakes year round. Crescent and Lake George are examples.
...and what CrappiePappy said.
May-Oct in Georgia. I use Bandit 300 series crankbaits. I haven't tried them in the colder months because you can usually find crappie schooled together on a brush pile or ledge and sit on them.
