TV crappie snubs?

I have noticed for such a popular fish, tv shows on catching crappie are just about non-existant. sort of ticks me off, can't ever seem to see anything more than jimmy houston fishin' oklahoma with roadrunner jigs, and all they do is cast & retrieve, & usually only has 1/2 an episode dedicated to it. I don't understand it? Someone should start a show called CrappieTV, showing tightlining, spider-rigging, nitestalkin', casting, talking about how to catch them in summer, could be a show specific for arkansas traveling arkansas lakes for crappie in spring. Jerry or Darryl, you guys should use your keith sutton connection to get somethin' like this going. What do y'all think?

Used to be a show called Crappie University. They traveled and fished with different guides. Don't know what ever became of it.

I remember this same subject on here before. I even made a few calls as a result of the thread. I talked to J&M productions here in LR that does the fishing TV for ESPN and talked to a guy that said it just wasnt a money maker. He told me that it was highly specialized and just did not have an appeal to the average viewer.

I couldn't agree more...how many times can you watch a bass get caught?:confused: And it seems that the majority of the fishing shows only show catching fish instead of actual techniques. Kind of like a lot of huntin' shows now...pretty much only see the kill shot...not the work that went into taking that shot.

He really meant you couldn't get enough advertisers. You start getting enough products that are crappie specific and the shows will start. I just can't watch those shows. I get impatient with the 12 minuets of comercials at the beggining and end of each 30 minuet show.

You'd think a Crappie Tournement would draw advertisers. Even the video's in stores are old and dusty. But once you have seen them, you ain't gonna buy the same thing again. There really is a dirth of information on crappie fishing. I too wish the powers that be would put on a crapie program, heck if you can make a show work around something called the food network, surely one on crappie fishing could work.

The Infisherman TV show and Al Lindners 2 shows have crappie segments fairly frequently, but they are normally on those lakes in Minn. where crappie are more relating to weed beds and weedlines which is not what we are fishing here. Bill Dance used to have a crappie show once or twice a year, but it has been a while since I've seen him do one.

Been awhile since we saw Bill Dance do anything but fall in the lake. LOL

midwest crappie is a tv show that comes on the sportsman channel and travels with guides, as well as fishing haawg country has some crappie shows.

Yep, I think you guys are all correct. Regrettably, the marketplace is slow to grasp changes. Around these parts, crappie fishing is FUELING tackle sales, BOAT SALES, and parts sales. Crappie fishing has exploded in interest. Advertisers need to realize they can sell way more mid-range outboards than 200 hp jobs, more nice aluminum boats than 22 foot glass ones........I'll stop now and join you all as we lament not getting to see our favorite fishing more on TV.

Crappie University......my FL fishing partner got to talk at a crappie tourney there with Whitey Outlaw, who did 6 episodes for Crappie university on the former OLN. All he could say was that there's be no more. You guys know why. But then, Whitey did not dress like a "pimp" for his shows, he more resembled Junior Samples, you see...my goodness, he resembled a regular American who fished for crappies long before the current peak of interest. We miss you, Whitey!
