KY 9/10/17 PICO Cranks
I headed out from Sportsman's this morning at first light for some fishing before the heavy winds arrive tomorrow. It was a gorgeous morning with barely any boats on the water. TVA has really pulled the plug on the lakes in preparation for major rain events upstream so many of the smaller ramps are going to start to be difficult to launch from. I returned to where I've found fish for the last two weeks setting up my trolling spread and within just a few minutes the first crappie was in the boat. Again, the fish were not relating to structure whatsoever and were scattered in open water. By 7:30 the ENE wind was really picking up and kicking my tail. The fish were becoming more spread out. I started with 4 different brands of lures but narrowed that down to two with PICOs producing crappie 2 to 1 over the other which were catching 10 yellow bass to every 1 crappie. I caught a 30 minute break in the wind after 10:00 and the larger fish started hitting. The only fish over 11" for the day were hitting PICO crankbaits. In my last 30 minutes on the water I boated (2) 12.5" and (2) 13" white crappie on PICOs, nothing huge but big fish of the day. Hot colors today were Blue Boogie, Mudbug and Wolverine. Thanks to Mitch and PICO for putting out such a great line of lures for us crappie fishermen.
