How many have used a external GPS antenna with heading sensor with a Humminbird 1199 or Helix ? I am looking to stop seeing a donut hole when trying to stay on a spot without having to move . Will it show correct direction of boat in relation to marked spot on map while sitting still ?

Yes.... BUT..... Here is the deal..... If you have Helix units and share the one puck between 2 units, you HAVE TO share BOTH the gps data and heading sensor data. The problem this will create is if you often mark spots from the bow of your boat. If you have the AS GPS HS mounted on the back of your boat, as close to being above the transducer as you can without getting interference from the motor (which will give you the most accurate waypoints when you see something on your screen at the console), and you are sharing it with a unit on the bow of your boat.... if you mark a waypoint from the bow of your boat, the gps coordinates will be from the location of the puck (at the back of the boat in this case). So, your waypoints will be off by the length of the boat.
I would recommend using a puck on the stern and a puck at the bow if you have Helix units. If you fish a lot of off shore structure/cover/wayponts, this will provide you with the most accurate data from either unit in your boat. However, if you have Solix units, you CAN get the best of both worlds from one puck. Solix (and Lowrance HDS units) will allow you to share gps AND/OR heading sensor information. The great thing this would allow you to do is keep the one puck on the stern and use it for gps AND heading sensor info on your console unit. Then on the bow unit.... you could ONLY share the heading sensor information and choose to use the bow units internal gps as the gps source. This way you get all the benefits of the heading sensor and still get gps coordinates from the bow when you mark a waypoint.... and only have the one puck in the boat.

I have a helix G2n on the bow, a 899 at the console. Both units have separate GPS pucks. Both are the AS GPS HS. I also use one of Rickie's SS. Attachment 274882 I read an article about having the pucks as close to the transducer as possible, I also spend a lot more of my time at the front tightlinning.
