TARP crappie and Candi 9/07/2017
I haven't been crappie fishing in so long that I nearly forgot how. Grin. I think that today was the first time in September and I only went 3 times in August. Me and the hot weather are not friends. I have done some white bass fishing and stuff like that, but have left the crappie alone.
That all changed today. I got a text from Candi about mid-morning and asked me if I was fishing and I said no. I didn't have anyone that wanted to go, so I was just going to stay home and chill out. She volunteered to go when she got her work done. So, we met about noon at a local grocery store parking lot and proceeded to a nearby launch ramp. We tried docks to no avail to begin with. We fished 4 different docks without a bite. Well, not a crappie bite. I did catch a 2" bluegill. LOL
With TVA running almost 46,000 CFS, we decided to leave the off shore stuff alone. I did look at one spot just to see if the fish were there and they were but we decided to leave them alone and look for fish under docks. Later, we fished a bluff where Candi landed a beautiful 14.5" Black Crappie. She said that made her day. It was the only keeper that she caught. I really put it on her by catching 2 keepers (12.25") and then we got into a nursery of crappie and caught several 6" fish until we decided to leave and try one more spot before we finished for the day.
Bass Assassin Pro Tiny 2" Limegreuse Glow fooled the big fish for Candi and I caught my keepers on Chicken on a Chain. It was a beautiful cool, blue sky day with a slight north wind blowing and the air was so clear. Humidity was low and it was just good to be out riding around on the lake. Not many fish caught, but it didn't matter. Numbers will pick up when we begin to search for the crappie in ernest in a couple more weeks.
