KY Lake 9/03
My wife and I got a late start about 10:30 this morning after resolving the great dishwasher debacle of 2017. I don't get to fish with her nearly as much as I'd like to with her work schedule so we make the most of it when we can share the boat together.
The first bay that we intended to troll was inhabited by a houseboat and several menacing jet skis so about one trip around was all I had in me. We made a major move then started picking up fish on cranks as the light cloud cover would periodically roll in. The bite seems to ease off when the sun came back out. The fish were extremely scattered and not relating to structure whatsoever so I had to pull a few cranking tricks out of my hat that started working. We caught only one short crappie and had one legal fish that was accidentally thrown back when my "yes" was misinterpreted as "yes, he's too short to keep so let's throw him back" versus "yes, throw him in the livewell"-we clarified our communication on legal fish moving forward.
I'm not exaggerating when I say that we boated over 150 small yellow bass-they're everywhere right now. I had a couple neat things happen, one was catching two yellows at once on a custom painted crankbait. The second was having my middle rod load up and as I'm reeling it in I see two crappie mouths, I think that I repeated the same earlier feat with crappie but found that it and a fish on my outside rod had struck at the same time and then got tangled up together right at the cranks.
All in all it was a beautiful Sunday in the camo Triton before the holiday with manageable boat traffic for such a historically busy long weekend. We called it a day with 18 in the cooler and one bruiser bluegill that hammered a 3 1/2" crankbait.

Great day and great catch.
When I asked Vicki if she would like to go Sunday afternoon or Monday morning I got met with the evil-eye stare down.

Great catch with the wife. I wished mine would go with me but she will not fish.

blacking out the crankbait. really.

It's a older Bandit 300 that I repainted Rich, nothing special about it whatsoever except the color combo that I lucked on to so that's what I censored and I hope I didn't ruffle your feathers. Blacking out GPS coordinates on a sonar screen is an accepted practice here so that's what I equate it to. Nothing negative intended.
I'd give the shirt off my back to help a fellow Crappie.com member in need-all you need to do is take the time to reach out and ask or go fishing with me. I have limited tolerance for the other type of individual that just trolls fishing sites with the expectation that they are entitled to be spoon-fed information without putting in the time, money and sacrifices that we have honing our techniques. I'll go out of my way help make someone that I meet on here a better fisherman based on what little I know, but it's a two-way street.
