In very clear water where crappie tend to stay deeper, can anyone give some useful suggestions on how to catch crappie that I know are there. Flouracarbon leaders and straight Minnows and small jigs work ok in the fall, but the bite right now is dang hard to come by.

Definitely use flourocarbon line, not sure how clear you are talking but the lakes I fish are usually 4-7 foot visibility and I use 8lb seaguar red label and it works great. If you are in visibility deeper than that I might go down to 4lb. Fish in clear water will spook easier too, stay back off them when you locate them and try casting jigs or if using minnows use a slip bobber. When using corks to, go with the smallest one possible, I've seen this make a huge difference between catching a few or putting liimits in the boat. Jigs I use in clear water are Bobby garland baby shad or slab players in colors, blue ice, patriot, hologram ghost with black or gray jig heads, sometimes I'll use an orange one too. But typically with clear water try colors that are more natural color to almost clear color like hologram ghost. Windy days can be a lot better too for the fact it makes the visibility less cause the waves and then you are less likely to spook them cause of that. Your reply makes lots of sense and seems to be on target. On certain days I would be hesitant to Guess the visibility of this lake, but it extremely clear.

Your lake sounds like a good lake to use planer boards. They will get your bait/jig out away from your boat. Also try fishing at night with green night lights that you sink about six feet. As far which planer boards, there are several good planer boards, I use Off Shore, and Church, but there are some good one's that are cheaper, like the green Opti.....Good Luck.
Go find some of crestliner's posts on fishing deep clear water. He fishes mainly with ultra lite tackle and 2 lb line. And he catches a ton of fish.
