Anyone been pulling cranks at Smithville?
Tried it once just this past Sunday in the wind. (8 mph my ass!)
Pulling AND pushing. Only my second time trying to push cranks and it worked surprisingly well. Only four or five crappie all day, and all but one of those were no-joes. The keeper was barely legal but gill hooked and bleeding bad so we kept it. Caught the crap out of white bass, though. Probably a dozen or so. Kept a few of the larger ones cuz the guy I was fishing with had never tried it and heard it was good so we filleted up a few for him to try. Along with that one crappie. His report was that he liked them. Said they reminded him of a red rock fish or a lingcod. Which really means nothing to me. He's from San Diego so did a lot of saltwater fishing but this was one of the few times he's been freshwater fishing.
Anyway...I might try it again next time I go out, now that I got the rods dialed in a little bit. Tried it at Watkins a few days earlier and it was horrible out there, which sucks cuz we'd normally catch a bunch of fish...all a mixed bag.
I'll be out there try my luck Saturday morning. I'll be pushing Crank baits, I'll be in a camouflage Excel with the 115 Mercury if you are there come by and say hello

I've tried them before. Taste more like cormorant to me. Pretty good if you're fish hungry.
Thank you for the reports!
