Nice. I would like to come out there and catch some of those. My bucket list includes a trip out west and and a trip to Dallas to fish with Ketchn, I haven't mentioned this to him yet, but I will get around to it soon enough.

LH, I seem to remember you saying the gills and crackers out there don't get much pressure.
Am I remembering correctly? Not many people fish for them?
Hardly any body fishes for the panfish - most go for the Bass, Stripers, and Catfish. We are fishing the opposite side from where the world records were caught. If you look at a map we fish the south side by Parker Dam. Havasu Springs is right on the water.
They have Northern strain BGs also, on the smaller side, but the hybrids get big too.

I was just in Santa clarita and Big Bear. what lake were you fishing. i am dreadfully bored when visiting son and grandaughtes and the 7 year old surprised me when she said she wanted papa to take her fishing.
I fish Lake Perris ~60 miles east of Los Angeles. I live in Riverside - not that far from Big Bear (~90 minutes). Use to go up there to bow fish carp.
Man, I am a bluegill/red ear fanatic. You might have just created a bucket list lake for me. Those are huge! The bigger ones i catch here average 8-9" on gills and maybe 10" on a red ear. Looks like an absolute blast.
Sj -The guy (Junglejim) with the 4lb 9oz RE is from Missouri - that was like his 4th or 5th trip out here.
