It's tough going right now on Wheeler. There are a few areas you may want to consider. In the past, Riverwalk Marina has held crappie. Including the piers outside the marina. Another area that may produce is the hwy 31 causeway bridge. There also is a deeper channel within the stump field to the hwy 31 causeway bridge behind the Riverwalk Marina that may hold fish. I always thought the Sharps Ford road bridge would hold fish but have never found any there. Main river bridges (I65, Hwy 31, and railroad bridge) are normally tough due to excess current on the main river. Just some thoughts. Good luck.
Hadnt ever done any bridge fishing at night on wheeler. I would think the 31 Causeway would be good but I couldnt say for sure. If you go let us know how you do.
The Spring Creek bridge is my favorite night fishin spot on Wheeler! Easy to get to and there is some brush just south of bridge on east side in 12-14 fow.
Do you put in at the state park near the dam or is there a ramp in Spring Creek? I've never been in that area before, just below the dam.
Yes there is a ramp right at Spring Creek. The guys I know from Decatur say there is a concern of somebody messing with your truck at night tho. When I head that way I put in at Lucy's Branch on North side and go across and down. We fished the Decatur causeway area pretty hard that weekend including the train tracks and the barge holding area. The only thing I caught that night was a good nap. But as Bob D said about that night it was a great night to be out either way.
