I am using small regular shank hooks (size escapes me) to drop shot gills. Has anyone found a good hooking and harder to swallow, and easier removal hook? Was thinking about trying a longer shank cricket type hook.

true turn # 6 or 8 .
Long shank cricket hook works well for easy removal.
I like sizes 10, 8, 6 bait holder hooks in that order. Size 10 holds maggots and meal worms better. They usually hook in the lip and it is easy to remove.
#4 and #6 red Tru-turns.
#6 Truturn or #6 Mosquito hook.
If you're looking for easy hook removal, you might try just bending down the barb. I've been fishing barbless now for several years, and my catch rate has not suffered that I can tell. Also, since I fish alone most of the time, getting a hook out of my finger was easy the only time it happened...FWIW.:fish
