Should have known better.....

After watching Kevin Rogers single-polin' on YouTube, my grandson decided that is what he wanted to do. So, we left the house with only two 10' jiggin' poles, a box of jig heads, a box of tubes and a box of Sliders, and headed for the bridges at Lake Monroe. The good news is he had a slab on, but, before I could get the net to the back of the boat, it was gone. ?
But, pretty soon, the attention span was getting as small as the jigs we were using. Tried the pads for a short while, but the sun was taking it's toll. So we called it a day.
Should have known better than to go fishing with a kid, and not bring minnows or crickets. I should have known better....?
But, Dairy Queen made it all better. ?

Great day with the grandson. That fish will grow with each telling, and that's how it should be. The dipping I do works well with 1/16 until it doesn't and then it goes in the rod box for the day. Tipping with a minnow sometimes helps. I have caught 19 fishing behind some folks that were using minnows but not paying attention to the attitude of the jig. Theirs were almost vertical and the minnow wasn't doing as well as it could have. I'm pretty particular about keeping my jig hanging as close to horizontal as I can, and feel that it makes a big difference. Think about it, what fish swims left to right while almost vertical? Shu is the dippin master, maybe he'll come in and give a pointer or two.
