I'm relatively new to tying and most of my tying is Marabou jigs and poppers. I've been using the Danville 210 denier threads and it seems to work good. Have also tied some actual flies with Uni 8/0 but have to be careful and not break it after using the 210. What does everyone here like/recommend to use?
I use the Danville 210 and smaller for micro jigs.

For jigs I like the Danville 210 Flat Waxed and for colors that are not in Flat Waxed like Purple I use the Danville 210 Flymaster Plus. These are what more guys and gals tie with that any other! Now for some things I really also like 140 Denier in these and sometimes even more so since it's smaller. I do have a few in smaller threads mostly because of color as I like the Green they have in Uni-Thread 6/0 and I use it with Kelly Green chenille. For flies you get into the less that 210 for sure as you need to worry about bulk on a fly where on jigs it's really not so important unless it's a tiny jig.
So it's more what you like to tie with. Heck I have some silk thread also and even some 14/0, lol! Not sure I will ever use that 14/0, but am sure it breaks if you look at it too hard, lol! Lately I have been trying another brand, but it's so costly I don't ever see crappie jig tiers ever go to it. This thread is fairly new to me, maybe never saw before 2 years ago, maybe 3 years? Anyway it's names is Veevus, but they don't have a lot of colors. Still it's suppose to not break as easy as other brands of same size. I have some 140 Denier in it and it's pretty darn nice, just cost too much! I also have some 240 Denier in it and is strong. They also get into the GSP type thread.
Now with all that said you can also tie your jigs with mono line and some MFG's like Danville even put mono on spools for tying. So there is no end to the options and comes down to what you like!
I should have said at the beginning, but didn't so will now, the Flat Waxed lays in so nice and is why it should be number one to try!

For small jigs Danville 2/0 nylon is perfect sometimes ill use 4/0
280 ultra, on my crappie and bluegill jigs.
I'm with Skip on a lot of what I do. I have 210 and 140, and some 70 and 6/0, I'm kinda heavy handed so the 6/0 breaks a lot. The 140 gets the nod most of the time cuz I find it easier to hide. Crappie don't care but I do. I have found that the tension on the bobbin doesn't help when it's tight and the thread is small. It all has it's place. Time on the vise will answer which is best for you.
