Kayak Trip Report, Madison County Lake
Work and travel has kept me busy the last few weeks, I finally found time to get out today. I expected most of the creeks and back waters to be muddy from the recent rain so I gave Madison County Lake a try. I started working the bank with a small spinner looking for gills, caught dozens, but all very small. Moved on to spider rigging for Crappie, but the recent rain has turned over the Lake. Instead of the typical summer thermocline set up with everything at about 12 foot or higher, I found fish from 6 feet all the way to the bottom. I ended up keeping 5 and returning 3 smaller Crappie. No pattern to the fish, caught one in 6 feet of water and another in 30 feet by the spillway. The water was 82 degrees and visibility of about 18 inches. It was still nice to get on the water!
