Chickamauga Lake Crappie report 6/26/17
My good friend, Ernie Biddy aka Gator, took me crappie fishing this morning in his new to me boat. He bought this boat 3 years ago and I can't believe that it has been 3 years since we last fished together. He paid me one of the best compliments that I could ever get. He said that he would rather fish with me than Bill Dance. We did what cuonthelake loves to do and that is dock shoot jigs for crappie. :biggrinAttachment 268532Attachment 268533Attachment 268534Attachment 268535Attachment 268536
Our weapons of mass crappie destruction were Bass Assassin Pro Tiny 2" jigs and Bobby Garland Slab Slayers and Baby Shads. Gator stuck with 1/16 jigs all morning and I fished 1/24 oz under docks and 3/32 oz on the vertical structure that we did fish at the very last to try to fill a double limit. We ended up with either 29 or 30 keepers and only one short fish. In addition to crappie, we did catch a couple of Bullhead catfish and one channel catfish. We might have caught the same Bullhead catfish. I caught it first, took pics, released it, and 10 minutes later, Gator caught what looked like the same fish. It might have been a mate to the one that I caught but who knows for sure? One trashy green fish completed our catch this morning.
Ours colors that worked were: BA Chicken on a Chain, S&P Phantom. BG Gumdrop, Green Thunder, Roly Poly, Cajun Cricket, and Lovebug. That is all that we tried unless Gator used one that I didn't know about. We fished from 7 to 11 and the solunar movement period on my watch peaked at 9:30 so the bite was good from 8 to 10:15 or so. Then it slowed down a lot.
Thanks for taking me fishing today, Gator. I'm taking my trolling motor to Swafford Trolling Motor in Lenoir City this afternoon. He has a steering head in stock. Great news. I'll have the G3 back on the water by the weekend. Yippee. :biggrin
