My favorite bass rod ever. Buy it, break it, take it back and get another one. No questions asked. The only ones I broke
were through ignorance or not paying enough attention. We hauled them all over the Lower White River bottoms on ATVs.
Heard they were bought out and the latter rods were not as good quality as the originals. Haven't seen them in jig poles.
I'm using B&M Capps & Coleman's now but if I ever have the urge to change, I will go to Southern Crappie.
I love my BnM Capps and Colemans for spider rigging

I get along with PST"s and BGJP'S but will buy a set of Pow-R-Trollers when they hit the market ....Look forward to some heavies....
Never was exposed to the Alstar's
I bought one of their 12' models with the cork handle from Academy and it made one trip before I sold it. It wasn't a terrible rod, but for the $49.95 that I spent on it, I felt like a could get a better rod for the same price. The balance wasn't great and it felt clumsy when loaded with a fish. I don't know if they were going for a parabolic bend in the rod but it flexed too far towards the rear of the rod for me, if that makes sense. I, too, used there bass rods almost exclusively many years ago and they were great rods. I think it was more comparable to some of the $30ish rods.
