Looking for a reputable boat mechanic near Memphis Tn. I have a 2003 Crestliner Crappie edition with a 90 hp Johnson vro oil injected motor. I just purchased it and it hasn't ran right since I bought it. It will run on muffs but won't under full throttle on water. I bought it from a marine dealer and figured I could trust them but guess you can't trust anyone. All he had to say was I bought a used boat.
You came to the right place, I'm sure some good mechanics will be here shortly. In the meantime you stuck with me lol, I don't use muffs, it forces the water into the the lower unit as opposed to letting the impeller and water pump do it's job of sucking it in. I know of a guy in Olive Branch who runs Southern Marine, his name is Mike. I know he services Mercury, he don't do Yahama, but may do Johnson. Thanks for the info. I just can't believe someone who runs a business and makes a living doing that would tell a man who just paid him $7500 that he bought a used boat.
Probably something really simple such as fuel lines partially clogged,, Mine sat up for 5 yrs when I got my engine and it had some fuel lines issues is all,,, The ethanol in today's fuel causes fuel lines to deteriorate and collapse when fuel is trying to get through,,, only way to check each one for me was to blow threw each and every fuel line until I found the clog...Once zi found which hose was clogged, I just replaced all of the fuel lines inside of engine bay,,,Best to check lines to tank as well to see if they have the newer stable ethanol safe lines installed,,l If not,,, replace those as well,,,
Like Snubbys said call mike tabor. Great guy and won't shoot you wrong. If you want to tackle it your self. If you got 6 or more gallons of gas dum a whole can of seafoam in it. Let that mix for a bit. Run it on muffs at idle. Let it run about 15 minutes. Let sit for hour run again. Do this in afternoon. Let sit until next afternoon do same thing. Do this for a couple of days. When you can take to lake. If not crowded just leave on trailer. Crank it up if it starts and runs just increase throttle a little and just sit there and let it run for awhile. Comfortable with it take it for a spin. If it throttles up and runs decent. Run it like you stole it. Sounds like low speed jet plugged up and that seafoam will usually clean one out. Auto zone or another parts house. Looked at WM today in olive branch and they quit carrying it.

Carbs need cleaning if it's set up for a long time. It's starving for fuel under a load. They ALL run on muffs because they aren't under a load. Different story when they're pushing you, your gear, and the boat in the water. Probably needs new plugs too.Quote:
