The Rainy Day Fly Rod Project Continued

Restoring the fly Rod that belonged to the wife's father is moving slowly along.. Custom Rod building Equipment is not cheap by any means ... There are so many things I needed to Investigate , To use and Preserve that Cork handle without changing the Original texture without filling the Pores of the Cork, But that part is finished.. I purchased a Rod Drier that Turns the Rod at 9 RPM --- for Rotating the Rod while applying the Epoxy... as it Cures on the Thread wrappings the Guides Levels for a quality Finish... The Tool available on Line Costs from $300 to $500 and a shopping Bag of other needed items is enough to make you run Screaming out the door === My answer is to build as much from scratch and buy the things necessary. Mine may not be Beautiful but it is a work in progress also. If you are Ready to do this Rod turning by hand take the day off work ---- The Cure Time on the First Coat is 7 to 8 hours !!!! and the next day you get to do it all over again... The Wrapper I built to hold tension on the thread had to be worked on -- it would not slip smoothly and unscrewed the wing nut -- so a slip clutch was the project to get it right

couple of things....those BBQ motors for rotating meat on the grill work for this..some are noisy, but can go real slow. also a simple thread tensioner is a book, just alter where and how you place the thread

I just had to make some small Plastic washers to go between the Metal flat washers

Have you looked at a serving tool for archery, it is used to serve the bow strings. It is simmular to the wraping tool, and available at academy or simular sporting stores. That may help with getting the tension right. If you were closer i have 2 styles you could borrow.

I lost too many Arrows I could not afford to take up Archery as an Adult, So The STUFF they have was not on my Radar,,, But I am always eager to see what others have come up with to Further their addictions, Thanks. I have to drill two more holes and set some parts in Epoxy before the Guide wrapping and Epoxy Curing begain ... I also have to coat the Mahagony Wood of The rod , Before the Guide work.... I will get some photos as the Project Progresses
