I'm going there in the morning to try my luck on crappie. I've driven over that lake hundreds of times, but never fished it. I'll be in a camo Wilderness Systems Pungo 120, so wave if you see me.

When I lived in CH in the 60's I fished it 3 or 4 times a week. It had more white crappie than black back then. Great little crappie lake. Leaving the dam, I liked the left creek. lone and narrow with deep water and fast drops. Biggest white crappie I ever saw came out of that lake. It was not on my line.
I fish there from time to time, and I catch most of my crappie under the bridge

Thanks for the replies guys.
Less than spectacular day of fishing for me. I fished from 6:45 AM until 2:30 PM. I boated 7 short crappie and missed several more. Caught one 15 inch bass and another about 10 inches. I saw tons of fish on the depthfinder, but seeing them on the screen and getting them to bite are two different things. Nobody I talked to out there was setting the water on fire today either.
I caught the crappie on a Bobby Garland Stroller body in eclipse color on a black 1/8 oz. Arkie jig head with a sickle hook . The bass were caught on Berkley Flicker Shad size #5 in pink flash. All bites came from 7-10 feet deep over 14-22 foot bottom.
I covered a lot of water and just didn't get many takers. Morning started off cloudless and calm. I was kind of surprised at the volume of recreational boat traffic. There were several rowers doing laps, then not long after they left, quite a few folks rented canoes, kayaks, and jon boats. One family in a jon boat had a young boy who was screaming at his sister for some reason. It really didn't enhance the experience.
I can't judge anywhere fairly by one day of fishing there. I'm not an Orange County resident, so it cost me $12.50 to launch my kayak. I'm going to try fishing here on a week day, then I'll hit Cane Creek after that.
