Cranking, Trolling Motors and Batteries

My current set up is a 24V 70lb Terrova, running off of (2) Interstate marine batteries. These were brand new in the boat when I bought it last May 2016.
I am running low on juice every trip out, and I know it's because of trying to pull a 21ft nitro at 1.5mph, it's gonna strain the batteries.
What kind of batteries could get me more time on the water for cranking? I never have issues spider rigging or 2 poling structure. Do I need to jump to a 36V trolling motor? If so, what kind of batteries should I run that on??

What group batteries do you have, I run 3 group 27s on my 20foot alum boat and have no problem pulling cranks however long I want, as long as I play smart and use the wind to my advantage. I would recommend a 36v system or like blueball, the 2x24v. But the 36 handles the bigger boats a lot better

Mo,
I will have to look at the batteries in the a.m. for the group #.
I also try to play and use the wind. Today was not the day for it tho, northeast wind on Ky lake is a pain!

I had a pair of 29 batteries that were 4 years old and probably saw little use that were in the boat I bought. They would last 4 hrs or so at 1.5-2mph. The 31 group batteries I just bought show 75% left after 8-9hrs+.

This is on a 80lb riptide, 16.5'alum Lowe deep V.

You NEED 36v !!:biggrin

2x 24v seems best.

Go ahead and use a few of those hunerts. I just bit the bullet and put a 36 volt 112 ulterra on my boat. Had run 12, 2x12, and 24. None were totally satisfactory to me.

With a boat big as yours I'd at least go to 24v system with a good group 31. Plus, it doesn't drain the battery as badly so the batts will generally last a little longer.

Perfect world scenario- group 31s on a 36v system

I agree, much cheaper than a new tm, but space constraints can become an issue. Probably not on a big ole 21ft glass boat tho
