I need to install a live well timer on my pontoon boat. There is only a on/off rocker switch on it at the present time. There is not really room for a variable knob and it would be handy to put something in line with the existing switch. Recommendations would be appreciated.
I put one in my console and just wired in to still be able use main switch and timer switch to turn off . Mounts under dash , drilled a hole to have setting knob exposed .

Here is the one I have, has fill, 1-3-7 minute intervals. Hooks in line with on off switch.

If you remove your old "on/off" switch, you can replace it with a 3 stage switch. One way will be manual (to fill the livewell) the other will be auto to run off the inline timer. The middle will be OFF. This is the setup on three of my Alumacraft boats.Quote:

Pretty sure this will be the best option/bang for you buck with minimal work for you to get it up and running. No more drilling!
Something else to think about .... is water temp. You're pulling in water from near the surface, so the water temps will be near the surface temps ... and in the Summer that can be relatively "hot" water. Fish caught from the depths and placed into this temperature of water can kill the fish in short order, even with oxygen pumps or spray bars. The adding of bottles of frozen water/ice will work, but only as long as they stay frozen ... and if the timer is constantly adding hot water to the livewell, that won't be a very long time.
While I understand that the purpose of a timer is to keep adding "fresh water" (read that - oxygenated water) to the livewell, in order to keep the fish alive ... it's not that efficient during the "hot water temps" period.
I'm not trying to be a buzzkill on this product .... but, just reminding folks that it's not a cure-all for dying fish, during the hot water period of the year.
I have 2 of the timers that Cray linked to.
Turn to on and let it runs until the live-well is full. Then switch to 1, 3, or 7 minute timer mode. It will turn on at the appropriate interval and run for 1 minute. Repeat!!!
I made my own control panel when I remodeled the boat so no help there..
Mine was rigged from the factory with 2 pumps and 2 controls. One is to fill from the outside water, and the other recirculates the water through an aerator head, infusing air into the water it recirculates. If I fill it in the morning, and then leave the timer in the aerator going, most times my fish are still swimming when I get home. If temps are an issue, I can throw a frozen 2liter bottle in and the chlorine from any ice I could have added isn't an issue.
