I started it almost a week ago --- and it is not even close to a finish.... The Project is to Restore what I would call an Antique Fly Rod that belonged to my Wifes Father.. It had been his Favorite rod for many years ,,, and I understand why now. She thought it was a split Bamboo Rod and did not remove it from the Cloth sectional bag that tied to protect the Rod ---- there was an extra tip that came with the Rod when new.. The rod was not Bamboo at all but was Hand made from Mahogany .. the Origional finish was Varnish that was Crystallized and dried past re-coating -- and the Thread on the Guides was in the same shape as the varnish This Project is something that would not be good for Photos but I may try some Shots at the Conclusion. The Beautiful wood is Octogan shaped from the Cork Handle to the tips that is about 1/16 diameter === the wood is not Perfectly straight as machined but is co close that the differences can be felt more than seen .... This bad finish was removed very carefully and the Rust removed from the Wire Guides in Preperation of this Refinish work. The Expierence of repairing Bro's broken Crappie rods put me in touch with several companys Catalogs.. that carry everything to Build Custom Rods or making your own Baits or Jigs. Those things needed are not available locally but will make the rod Better than new. When the Restoration is finished I will share it with My friends Of CDC as all of you OLD TIMERS still appreciate the Craftsmanship that went into the making of rods that Our fathers and Grandfathers used!!!!
