To start I am new to the forum, so thank you for any help. I am wanting to start trying to catch some perch at night during the summer. I've done it a few times during pre spawn in February on Caney and have had very good luck with it and none at all. But during the summer time I don't even know where to start. Any pointers, advice, or previous experiences I would greatly appreciate it. I don't know why night time fishing catches my attention guess cause it's less people.

:welcome to the forum DD.....simply the best on the web for friends and information....safe for your kids to browse here also...you can use the "search" bar (top right corner) to search the CDC (Crappie.com) archives for any info you need.....I see you are in North Louisiana...we always have a get together at Lake D'Arbonne State Park in November.....keep an eye open for announcements later on and come join us....I don't know much about night fishing but some here do so I am sure they will jump in for you....

I use to do a lot of night fishing on Toledo bend in the warm summer months. The best advice I can give you is to find a cove (out of the wind preferably) and find a stick (tree top) that has a lot of old strings tied to it (these are the sticks or tops that the locals have usually baited up) and tie off to it and just wait. Most of the locals don't fish them at night so you shouldn't have any problems with them. I have had to wait half a night for them to start biting some times but once they did, I couldn't keep up with the 3 poles that I had out. I also like to use both the slip cork method and just tight lining. Usually the catfish will keep you entertained until the crappie show up. OH AND WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!!

Me and my wife night fish allot in the summer . Its not as hot and there are no skiers. We have found that what works for us is to point the boat at the bank about twenty yards from it . This will depend on the depth and grass. We drop a front and back anchor and we set out six poles in the front baited with shiners and jigs mixed. we have some rigged tight line and some with corks that have a lite stick in them so you can see them. The lights we use are green and draw thousands of shad that circle the light in a large ring. we have had great luck doing this . we usually stay most of the night . Good luck and enjoy.
We have some places on the lake I'm goin to night fish that have some docks with green lights under them and some are close to creeks and 20' of water so I figure that will be a good start. I've used the lighted corks before perch fishing but never tight lined. Was Also goin to try some spots I caught them prespawning before in about 12-16 FOW.Quote:
